Ballet Jörgen Canada

The Nutcracker
Hammerson Hall
Sunday, December 6 2009 1 pm
Sunday, December 6 2009 4:30 pm

His ballet production of "The Nutcracker" returns with scenery and costumes inspired by the artwork of famous Canadian artists, the Group of Seven. With set design inspired by the rural landscapes of Northern Ontario, and Tchaikovsky's familiar musical score, this delightful reworking of the timeless classic tells the story of a young girl and her toy soldier. Make The Nutcracker part of your holiday tradition.

In a collaboration with the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, The Group of Seven Nutcracker features as a backdrop Canada’s 20th century landscape artists, Franklin Carmichael’s Church and Houses at Bisset (1931), Tom Thomson’s Snow in the Woods (1916) and L.L. FitzGerald’s Trees and Wildflowers (1922). This presentation will take you on journeys through northern landscapes filled with dragonflies, beavers, birches, squirrels and more.

"Ballet Jörgen is a rare and exhilarating find." - Toronto Star
