Celebrating their 45th anniversary, "The Temptations" bring new freshness and fire to the world of contemporary urban music. Supporting their new album, "Back to Front", the band is a testimony to the musical power of great music, nurtured through the phenomenon of Motown and expanded, year after year, into a triumph of here-and-now hits.

Thanks to their fine-tuned choreography -- and even finer harmonies -- "The Temptations" became the definitive male vocal group of the 1960s; one of Motown's most elastic acts, they tackled both lush pop and politically charged funk with equal flair, and weathered a steady stream of changes in personnel and consumer tastes with rare dignity and grace.

Initially known as the Elgins, the quintet were renamed "The Temptations" by Berry Gordy when he signed them to Motown in 1961. After issuing three singles on the Motown subsidiary Miracle Records, one of them under the pseudonym of the Pirates, the group moved to the Gordy label. "Dream Come Home" provided their first brief taste of chart status in 1962, although it was only when they were teamed up with writer, producer and performer Smokey Robinson that "The Temptations" achieved true success.
